Who Should Consult an Osteopathic Practitioner?

Virtually all health conditions may benefit from osteopathic treatment. Some of the most common disorders include:
  •  Neck and back pain, headaches and migraines
  •  Sciatic pain, joint pain, traumatic and overuse injuries
  •  Pediatric health such as chronic ear infections
  •  Pregnancy and post partum symptoms
  •  Digestive disorders such as acid reflux, bloating, cramps
  •  Nervous disorders, insomnia
  •  A multitude of other disorders

Osteopathic Practitioners can work in conjunction with your medical doctor, dentist, podiatrist, naturopath, RMT, acupuncturist or other health practitioners, to maintain good health.

When to Consult an Osteopathic Practitioner

Prevention is wise and it is often easier to treat underlying stresses and strains at the first signs of symptoms or immediately after an injury. Back or neck pain often does not arise immediately after an injury because the body is very good at adapting to, and compensating for injuries. However, the disruption to spinal mechanics causes more strain to build up over time and thus, symptoms appear, often insidiously.
You do not have to have severe pain to benefit from treatment. Early treatment will help minimize structural damage and possible further disruption to other systems of the body. Recurrent episodes of pain may be triggered by physical exertion, emotional stress or illness. Sometimes a simple movement may be "the final straw".
During treatment, it is often necessary to release the retained stresses from these past injuries and traumas in order to relieve the current pain and thereby reduce the likelihood of recurrences. There may also be improvement in seemingly unrelated symptoms, during the course of osteopathic treatments.
